Good-bye Seoul, Hello Spokane 1: International Date Line

When I got this idea it was early morning in Spokane and early evening in Seoul the next day. It was also about 25 hours ago, 73 hours after our Air Canada flight left Korea, and 33 hours after our Alaska Air flight touched down in Spokane. And all of that was after we left Seoul an hour and a half late and arrived in Spokane six hours late. At least that’s how I think the numbers work out. It is 3:00 a.m. and I am a bit foggy-headed — this crossing the International Dateline thing can make you crazy. But never mind the numbers, the idea was to continue the travelogue posts I started in Seoul, only from Spokane. Seoul is undeniably foreign and I’d never been there before, and that’s not true of Spokane. Or so it seems. Or so it’s easy to think. But the only way I could ever experience either Seoul or Spokane is to um, well… to experience them, fresh in the moment, from the inside out. What would happen if I were to approach life here the way I did there? I don’t know, but I plan to find out. How’d you like to come along? No more disorienting International Dateline crossings, I promise.
